About Me

- Silky
- I am a fibreaholic from way back when. For over 20 years I worked creating one of a kind vestments. Cutting and sewing very expensive silk yardage. When I retired and received a spinning wheel from my husband the first fibre I choose to spin was silk. Pursuing my love for silk. Causing one of my very sweet girl friends to remark. You seem to be going backward down the silk road. Not content with the wheel I now have a love affair with the hand spindle too. Its so easy to sit and spin next to my husband whilst he watches TV or does crossword puzzles. So I do indeed appear as I get older to begoing backward in many regards.

That Was the Hat that Was!!!!
My friend phoned and asked me if I would please knit some toques for her upcoming sale. I decided that this would be the perfect use of some of my hand spun hand dyed silk. The first toque was complete. It felt a bit stiff so I decided it should be wet finished. I placed it into a large bowl of hot water and orvus paste. Then because of my (English bought up in the war nature. When everything was rationed) I decided to throw in a few skeins of silk that I have recently spun. The silk had come from Treenway and it was multi coloured very pretty. The dye ran from the skeins of silk into the hat. Not only that but silk stretches when wet. And it only partially recovers when dry. What a disaster!!! Oh I have a lot to learn So one of the pictures is the silk how it looked before it was knitted the other is the hat after it went through the wars. And the other hat turned out quite successfully with the bamboo eyelash bans however it has not been washed. This hat will not leave my house. I am now knitting toques in wool for the sale. Stayed tuned .
